Clay Sessions for Teens and Adults

 

 

The Clay Studio Sampler

Experience Level: Beginner

A perfect class for beginners!  Make a different project while learning a new technique each week.  A range of hand-building and sculpting techniques, and glazing are all covered during this fun, intensive class.  By the end of the term, complete four projects (or more) and gain a better understanding and appreciation of the ceramic medium.

5 Mondays, April 24 – May 22, 10:00 – Noon

Non-members $150 + $35 materials fee / 25 lbs clay, glaze and firing

Members $135 + $35 materials fee / 25 lbs clay, glaze and firing

 

 

Introduction to Hand-Building and Sculpting with Clay

Experience Level: Beginner

Explore the fascination of working with clay, learning basic techniques in wedging, pinching and slab sculpting to develop your own line of handcrafted clay pieces. Demonstrations on cups, bowls and plates created in stoneware will be glaze fired and ready for table service once fired. Pieces are food, dishwasher and microwave safe. Techniques with slips, under-glazes, sculpting and altering forms will be discussed.

Work with the Master: At the Potter’s Wheel

Experience Level: Intermediate to Advanced

Already a seasoned clay artist with some experience at the wheel?  This semi-private clay session at the wheel is designed for one-on-one instruction. There will be demonstrations based on individual’s needs in order to excel at new levels.  This hands-on intensive is for the clay artist aiming to participate in the FVAC Clay Co-op, and an introduction to become more familiar with the facility equipment and opportunities.

Tuition $100.00 – $90.00 Members + $35 materials fee / 25 lbs clay, glaze and firing.

Any 2 Thursdays from 10:00 – Noon or 1:00 – 3:00 PM, call 860-678-1867 for an appointment

 

 

Work with the Master: At the Extruder

Experience Level: Intermediate to Advanced

Use the power of equipment without the mess of wet slip!  The extruder, often overlooked in the studio, is an awesome tool for sculpting a line of production ware.  Learn how to set-up the power to create in multiples; cups bowls, details to additional hand-built works along side an instructor to show you the ropes.  You will have the ability to glaze fire all pieces in the second session.

Tuition $100.00 – $90.00 Members + $35 materials fee / 25 lbs clay, glaze and firing.

Clay Sessions for Kids

 

Fired Up! Youth Clay Class

Bibbidi-bobbidy-boo, what do you turn that lump of clay into? Fire up your creativity and learn the art and craft of pottery while having fun exploring the magic of clay. Children will be doing many exciting hand-building clay projects, such as coil pots, flower pots, creature sculptures, dishes, cups or bowls. (Classes are appropriate for children ages 7-12+)

4 Mondays, May 1 – May 22, 4:30 – 6:00 PM
