Carolyn Mackenzie Artist-in-Residence – Studio 8B

Artist Statement
Carolyn Mackenzie is currently an Artist in Residence (AIR) at the Farmington Valley Arts Center. She is developing her skills in the art of handmade leather craft. Her work is inspired by her South African roots, and influenced by the rich, diverse culture and artistic talent of the people of South Africa.

She primarily focuses on making handbags and belts from vegetable tanned leather and natural hides. With a background in interior design, she also makes pillows and reupholsters furniture.

Her skills include: pattern making, cutting, tooling/carving/embossing, painting/dying/antique, hand stitching, lacing, braiding, hardware application

Carolyn appreciates this opportunity to work as an AIR, and thanks the FVAC community and artists for their support and guidance.
