Class Description

This class will focus on color as one of the seven elements of art, and explore it in a variety of ways. Each week, the students will focus on a different color and discuss topics such as where they see this color, what it reminds them of, and how it makes them feel. Inspiration will be provided by books, photographs, and natural materials, and students will be given the option to use many different art materials (oil pastels, chalk, paint, beads, etc.), but only in the specific color they are investigating that day. They will be challenged to use inspiration from the opening discourse as well as using different materials and shades to convey images and ideas in their art.

About the Instructor

Taylor Burton graduated from University of Saint Joseph’s with a Masters in the Art of Teaching, and holds an early childhood and special education teaching license. Taylor has worked in public school systems throughout Connecticut with children from ages 2 - 10. Her teaching style incorporates the Reggio Emilia philosophy as well as the Multiple Intelligences theory. In Taylor’s classroom students guide their own interest based learning, are invited to socialize and freely engage with peers, encouraged to get messy, allowed to break all the (art) rules, and most importantly have FUN!
