Class Description

Come join the fun as you learn how to paint an ocean scene in pastel. Photograph references will be provided but students may work from their own photo references.
Approximate Schedule:
09:30-10:45: Introduction and underpainting by Karen
10:45-12:00: Students will begin their painting
12:30-01:30: Karen will demo pastel application
01:30-03:00: Students will paint with pastel and Karen will be available for critique and direction

Materials
- Light-colored sanded pastel paper, no larger than 16x20
- Board to tape paper onto
- Artist tape
- Rubbing alcohol
- 1” flat brush
- Paper towels
- Easel
- Variety of soft pastels


About the Instructor

Karen Israel is an award winning pastel artist currently serving as President of Connecticut Pastel Society. Her paintings are created as a celebration of light and color that aim to delight the eye and engage the mind. Karen’s paintings are representational but symbolism and abstraction are constantly emerging in the frame. Her work can be found in many collections throughout the Northeast and Canada.
