Paper Possibilities 2018

The Farmington Valley Arts Center is hosting the Paper Artist Gathering's Paper Possibilities 2018 exhibit from May 12th through June 30th.

‘Warli’ Art is one of the oldest art forms developed and practiced by tribals of India. It uses very basic geometrical shapes to create motifs of human beings, animals, and nature to weave a story about the daily lifestyle of this tribe in a loose rhythmic pattern. You will be introduced to this art form by learning about its background, simplistic lifestyle of this tribe, expressing living forms through shapes and create interesting scenes of ‘Warli’ motifs with combinations of color and patterns. In this workshop, you will work to create an art piece using 'Warli' motifs based on the theme 'Order in Chaos'. Max. 10 students / Min. 5 students. Materials fee paid directly to instructor: $5

About the Instructor Prachi Khade- Gurjar: I am Prachi, and I belong to India. I am an Architect and Landscape designer by profession. Coming from the design field, my passion for art led me to work excessively with Indian tribal art forms, 'Warli' being one such prominent one. I work with Indian tribal art through various mediums and create objects that display the beautiful and vibrant art form. To me, my work is an expression through which I communicate what I know about the rich culture and heritage of India.

Paper Engineering and Pop-Up Workshop

Saturday June 9, 2018, 12:00 - 3:00 PM

This workshop will cover various paper engineering techniques- students will learn to translate pop-up models into cards or books. Templates will be provided so that everyone can explore various levels of complexity. There are lots of interesting movement and dimension that you can achieve with pop-up structures. At the end of the workshop students will be given the option to bind all pop-up models into a book to take home.
Min. 3 students / Maximum 10 students. Materials fee paid directly to instructor: $10

Materials for students to bring: Self healing cutting mat, scissors, ruler, x-acto knife (optional: collage materials and extra paper to experiment with)

About the Instructor: Yoojin Kim is an award winning paper engineer, artist & designer living in New Haven, CT. She works as a designer of pop-up cards and books for UWP Luxe & Up With Paper. She recently published her first pop-up book title, LEAVES: An Autumn Pop-Up Book.

Origami Corrugation
