Class Description

LIMITED TO 4 STUDENTS! Learn a variety of wheel throwing techniques to make both functional and decorative pieces. Beginner students will learn the fundamentals of throwing and working with clay on the wheel. More experienced students will be challenged with learning to throw more complex forms and vessels. Decorating, altering, and finishing techniques will also be taught.
Tuition includes the use of the ceramic studio during an active session. Reserve Time Slot in Ceramic Studio

• Potter’s starter kit (they can be found at a Michael’s or any art and craft store)
• Medium size bucket
• Large sponge for clean-up
• Two large towels

Students should come prepared with nails cut and dress appropriately (meaning you’re going to get dirty).

About the Instructor

Amy Sciongay is a practicing ceramic artist from New Britain, CT. She creates both function wheel-thrown pottery and decorative wall hanging sculptures. Her work combines texture, color, and textiles to create unique and playful artwork, perfect for everyday life and home. Amy graduated from Central Connecticut State University with a BA in Ceramics in 2017 & in 2020 with a post-baccalaureate teaching certification in Art Education. Currently, Amy teaches Middle School Art in Glastonbury, CT. Sciongay has exhibited in several galleries and group shows such as CCSU Art Gallery, MCC on Main Gallery, Hartford Open Studios, and The Wadsworth Atheneum.
