Class Description

This workshop is designed to address one of the most persistent challenges in drawing—the understanding and application of perspective. For many students, perspective presents a genuine obstacle; without a grasp of its principles, their work often appears static and lacks visual development or spatial coherence.

The aim of this workshop is to provide a clear and accessible introduction to how perspective functions in art. The focus will be limited to one-point and two-point perspective, emphasizing the use of a single horizon line and up to two vanishing points. By simplifying this fundamental concept, the workshop seeks to demystify perspective and make it both understandable and practical for students to apply in their creative work.

This workshop does not operate on levels of prior experience. The only prerequisite is a serious commitment to drawing and an active engagement in the creative process.

About the Instructor
Maurice Casas’ art is a result of several years of experimentation and a search for identity. The fusion of these two disciplines and his sensitivity have given him a new vision for color and design. His work creates an environment of invented realms and is juxtaposed between past and present. He uses semi-abstract and figurative mark-making to create tension between reality and fanciful. Maurice has developed a unique and colorful language with its own vocabulary using Pre-Columbian Art, Iconography, and Architecture elements. Originally from Colombia in South America, Maurice has attended Colegio Antonio Narino and New York City Technical College. He has lived in the United States for 35 years, where he has worked as a Visual Artist and Architectural Designer.
