Class Description

Come explore the basics of kiln-fired clay using traditional hand-building in this teen class! We will be creating functional and non-functional designs in clay using the techniques of pinch, slab, and coil. To finish, we'll add surface decoration, glazes, and paints to our clay. Whether you're a beginning hand-builder or a clay expert, all are welcome!

Materials fee for 25 pounds of clay is $33. Glazes and a firing fee are included in the tuition.
Note: We cannot offer open studio hours for teen ceramics students.

About the Instructor

Stefanie Baechler graduated from CCSU with a bachelor's degree in art education and English as a Second Language. During the school year, Stefanie teaches art to 3rd through 6th graders in the Winchester Public school district. Since her college years, Stefanie has been teaching youth art classes, leading art adventure programs, and instructing art parties at the Farmington Valley Arts Center. Her work focuses on capturing fleeting and spontaneous emotions through colorful abstract figures and paintings.
