Class Description

This is a beginner’s figure drawing course, BUT basic drawing skills are recommended. It is not a traditional life drawing course. The primary objective is to help you develop your observation skills using a technique designed to teach you how to see, so you can draw accurately.
A key focus of the course is learning to consciously understand what you are seeing before you begin drawing it. This is a common challenge—even for those who have drawn the human figure for years without truly understanding how to draw it accurately.
This is a life drawing course that includes a nude model posing. The class begins with a two-dimensional analysis and explanation of the pose on a screen, followed by a live demonstration drawing of the model. Then, the model will hold a few poses, starting with two-minute warm-ups and ending with a longer final pose.
I will be teaching you the most basic and important aspect of drawing: how to see.

Please be advised: live nude art models are the focus of this drawing class, students must be 18 years of age or older to register.

About the Instructor
Maurice Casas’ art is a result of several years of experimentation and a search for identity. The fusion of these two disciplines and his sensitivity have given him a new vision for color and design. His work creates an environment of invented realms and is juxtaposed between past and present. He uses semi-abstract and figurative mark-making to create tension between reality and fanciful. Maurice has developed a unique and colorful language with its own vocabulary using Pre-Columbian Art, Iconography, and Architecture elements. Originally from Colombia in South America, Maurice has attended Colegio Antonio Narino and New York City Technical College. He has lived in the United States for 35 years, where he has worked as a Visual Artist and Architectural Designer.
