Bring your ideas to life in this hands-on comic creation workshop! Students will learn the complete comic-making process, from developing original characters and crafting a compelling story to scripting, sketching, inking, lettering, and coloring their own one-page comic.
Along the way, we'll explore the fundamentals of visual storytelling, including character design, story structure, page layout, and comic composition. By the end of the six-week session, each student will have completed an original, full-color one-page comic.

Materials: All basic materials will be provided. Students are encouraged to bring their own preferred inking pens and coloring supplies (such as markers or colored pencils) if they have them, but classroom supplies will also be available to use.

About the Instructor

Rebekah Church is a local artist who focuses on both illustration and sequential art. She is the current Artist-in-Residence at the Farmington Valley Arts Center and graduated from Central Connecticut State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Art. She has self-published a comic book titled Prodelle. The comic tells the story of a young Prodellian named Macurey and her adventures on the fictional planet of Prodelle. The story blends fantasy, science fiction, and animal characters into a single book. Rebekah co-directed and participated in the CCSU Spring Art Show in April 2022, where college art students gathered to sell and feature their creative work. She was also co-curator of an art show titled eMOTION at the Ely Center of Contemporary Art in New Haven, CT. The exhibition featured illustration, animation, and sequential art. Rebekah lives in New Britain with her cat, Quill, who is the mascot for her art business, Reebs Illustrations.
