A nationally recognized book author and essayist, Mary Collins directed the Writing and Publishing program at Central CT State University for 20 years, where she won the Teaching Award, and continues to teach nonfiction for the Yale Summer Writing Program.

In addition to offering writing workshops at FVAC for new and established writers, she also runs the Collins Story Exchange, which focuses on gathering stories from others and helping them craft heirloom quality narratives for family, friends, communities and libraries.

Prior to moving to Connecticut for her job at CCSU, she worked in Washington, DC at National Geographic and the Smithsonian. She has published five nonfiction books, many essays and articles and several young adult history books.
