Wheel Throwing Techniques

Requirement: Some wheel throwing experience (can throw a basic cylinder)
Minimum Age: 16
Location: FVAC Annex 8D at 8 Canal Court, Unit D, Avon, CT 06001, across from FVAC campus
Materials fee: $33 for 25 lbs of stoneware clay
Tuition: $180 includes glazes and firing, Members save 10%

Class Description
Take your wheel-throwing skills to the next level in this focused, skill-building class. Designed for students with some wheel experience, this class emphasizes refining technique, improving control, and developing consistency in form. Potters will strengthen their throwing fundamentals to elevate the quality of their work. Many pieces will be cut in half to inspect, learn from, and recycled rather than being fired.

About the Instructors
Drew Darley is a full-time potter who focuses almost exclusively on wheel-thrown vessels putting a strong emphasis on a clean refined form. Drew enjoys glaze chemistry and the science behind mixing and formulating his own glazes. His current focus is on crystalline glazes. While in college Drew studied ceramics and mathematics. He found connections between the two disciplines in regards to glaze calculation and form which allows him to constantly to push the materials to the limit. Visit Drew's website.
