Welcome to Farmington Valley Arts Center's Summer Teen Art Afternoons Program. Teen artists will explore the arts more deeply with the guidance of professional artists.
Recommended age: 12-16+

Option 2: July 27 - July 31
Come experience the rewarding process of working with clay and creating unique pieces! Learn the fundamentals like hand-building techniques of pinch, coil, and slab. Then have a seat at the potter's wheel and explore a variety of wheel throwing practices.

Handbuilding: Sculptural Forms in Clay

July 13-17
Explore the art of large-scale handbuilding in this immersive clay experience. Students will work with coils, slabs, and surface techniques such as texture and sgraffito to create both functional pieces—like bowls and vases—and expressive sculptural forms, including creatures and hanging works. This week focuses on building confidence with clay, experimenting with scale, and bringing big ideas to life.

MIXED MEDIA EXPLORATIONS IN 2D & 3D
2:00 PM - 4:30 PM
Option 1: July 6-10
Option 2: July 20-24
Put your design skills to the test in a fun environment learning a variety of art-making skills. Students will work with different media like paper, glass, textiles, plaster, paints, found objects to create their own handmade artwork.

Art Mash-Up: Paint, Collage & Beyond
3:30 PM - 6:00 PM (Please Note: This week starts at 3:30, not the usual 2–4:30 PM)

Jump into a week of fun, hands-on artmaking as we explore watercolors, acrylics, collage, and mixed media in a vibrant studio environment. Teens will experiment with materials, try new techniques, and combine ideas in unexpected ways while building confidence and expressing their unique artistic style.
