Summer Teen Art Afternoons 2026
Welcome to Farmington Valley Arts Center's Summer Teen Art Afternoons Program. Teen artists will explore the arts more deeply with the guidance of professional artists.
Recommended age: 12-16+

Come experience the rewarding process of working with clay and creating unique pieces! Learn the fundamentals like hand-building techniques of pinch, coil, and slab. Then have a seat at the potter's wheel and explore a variety of wheel throwing practices.

Handbuilding Clay: Bowls, Beasts & Everything in Between

July 13-17
This immersive clay week is all about thinking BIG. Using coils, slabs, texture, and sgraffito techniques, you'll create everything from bowls and vases to wild creatures and hanging sculptural works. From functional to fantastical, this is your week to experiment with scale, get bold with clay, and bring your biggest ideas to life.

MIXED MEDIA EXPLORATIONS IN 2D & 3D

Option 1: July 6-10
Option 2: July 20-24
Put your design skills to the test in a fun environment learning a variety of art-making skills. Students will work with different media like paper, glass, textiles, plaster, paints, found objects to create their own handmade artwork.

Art Mash-Up: Paint, Collage & Beyond

Jump into a week of fun, hands-on artmaking as we explore watercolors, acrylics, collage, and mixed media in a vibrant studio environment. Teens will experiment with materials, try new techniques, and combine ideas in unexpected ways while building confidence and expressing their unique artistic style.
