Class Description
This class focuses on the behind-the-scenes skills to keep a ceramics studio running. Students will explore best practices for studio organization, kiln loading and operation, firing procedures, and methods for reclaiming and recycling clay. Students will learn how to diagnose malfunctions and repair basic studio equipment.
About the Instructor
Drew Darley is a full-time potter who focuses almost exclusively on wheel-thrown vessels putting a strong emphasis on a clean refined form. Drew enjoys glaze chemistry and the science behind mixing and formulating his glazes. His current focus is on crystalline glazes. While in college Drew studied ceramics and mathematics. He found connections between the two disciplines in regards to glaze calculation and form which allows him to constantly push the materials to the limit. Visit Drew's website.
