In this introductory glaze course, students will learn the fundamentals of ceramic glaze formulation and mixing. Participants will explore how raw materials combine to create glazes, understand the role of oxides and colorants in glaze chemistry, and calculate recipes using glaze formulas.
The class emphasizes skills in weighing, mixing, testing, and adjusting glazes, giving students the confidence to create and customize their own glaze recipes.

About the Instructor

Drew Darley is a full-time potter who focuses almost exclusively on wheel-thrown vessels putting a strong emphasis on a clean refined form. Drew enjoys glaze chemistry and the science behind mixing and formulating his own glazes. His current focus is on crystalline glazes. While in college Drew studied ceramics and mathematics. He found connections between the two disciplines in regards to glaze calculation and form which allows him to constantly to push the materials to the limit. Visit Drew's website.
