Summer Teen Art Afternoons 2024

Welcome to Farmington Valley Arts Center's Summer Teen Art Afternoons Program. Teen artists will explore the arts more deeply with the guidance of professional artists.
Recommended age: 12-16+
Tuition includes all materials: $200, Ceramics $250, Members save 10%

CERAMICS: WHEEL & HANDBUILDING ADVENTURE

Come experience the rewarding process of working with clay and creating unique pieces! Learn the fundamentals like hand-building techniques of pinch, coil, and slab. Then have a seat at the potter's wheel and explore a variety of wheel throwing practices.

INK IT UP: PRINTMAKING EXTRAVAGNAZA

From traditional methods like linocuts and collagraphs to innovative approaches such as monoprinting and stamping, artists will experiment with various tools, materials, and printing surfaces to bring their visions to life.

Drawing & Painting: Colorful Portraiture

Paint a selfie! Draw inspiration from famous artists throughout history and explore various methods to create your own unique portrait. Teens will learn to draw facial features while practicing portraiture using a variety of fun techniques!

MIXED MEDIA EXPLORATIONS IN 2D & 3D

Put your design skills to the test in a fun environment learning a variety of art-making skills. Students will work with different media like paper, glass, textiles, plaster, paints, found objects to create their own handmade artwork.

Meet The Insructors

Monica Hewryk

Monica graduated from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania with a Master of Fine Arts in ceramics in 2021. She received a Bachelor of Arts from Central Connecticut State University with a concentration in ceramics in 2014. She teaches at Northwestern Connecticut Community College, Junkpot Studio, Farmington Valley Art Center, and Wesleyan Potters. She is also the University Assistant/ceramics technician at Central Connecticut State University. Monica maintains a private studio at home and continues to exhibit her work nationally. Monica’s work has received the Award of Excellence in Contemporary Clay 2022, and Juror’s Choice, in De/composition: National Juried Show in 2019. Visit Monica's website.

Ally Pedemonti

Ally Pedemonti is an artist and art educator living and working in Connecticut. She graduated from Central Connecticut State University with a B.S. in Art Education and completed a residency at the Farmington Valley Arts Center in the summer of 2019. From 2016 to 2023, Ally has been accepted into several juried group shows in Connecticut.

Stefanie Baechler

Stefanie Baechler graduated from CCSU with a bachelor's degree in art education and English as a Second Language. During the school year, Stefanie teaches art to 3rd through 6th graders in the Winchester Public school district. Since her college years, Stefanie has been teaching youth art classes, leading art adventure programs, and instructing art parties at the Farmington Valley Arts Center. Her work focuses on capturing fleeting and spontaneous emotions through colorful abstract figures and paintings.
